A Week in Asakusa
Wired Hotel
We checked into the funky Wired Hotel.
It has the greatest industrial feel and the staff are amazingly friendly. It was nice and central to the Asakusa area and close enough to the Ginza Line so we could take a small train ride into more central parts of Tokyo.
Wandering around
Most of the week was spent just wandering around the local area and finding murals and visiting the Seiko Factory.
Sensoji Temple
Sensō-ji is an ancient Buddhist temple. Legend says that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River, and even though they put the statue back into the river, it always returned to them. Consequently, Sensoji was built nearby for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo’s oldest temple.
Day trip to Echigo-Yuzawa
We’d purchased a 7-day JR Rail pass for our trip to the snow so decided to use one of the days to do a little day trip into the mountains.
